Top Ten “Brat Pack” Movies

(Who would possibly find this list illuminating I have no idea, but I was thinking about it, so here we go. The “brat pack,” so-called, was a group of young actors who rose to prominence with a handful of films in the mid-80s, chief among them The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire. Which actors should be considered brat-packers and which shouldn’t is a matter of some debate, but the eight core members are generally considered to be Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy. These are what I consider to be the ten best movies with which any of these actors have been involved. I’ve arranged them in chronological order.)

  • Badlands (with Emilio Estevez, uncredited, 1973)

  • The Outsiders (with Emilio Estevez and Rob Lowe, 1983)

  • WarGames (with Ally Sheedy, 1983)

  • Repo Man (with Emilio Estevez, 1984)

  • A Few Good Men (with Demi Moore, 1992)

  • Six Degrees of Separation (with Anthony Michael Hall, 1993)

  • High Art (with Ally Sheedy, 1998)

  • Happy Accidents (with Anthony Michael Hall, 2000)

  • Thank You for Smoking (with Rob Lowe, 2005)

  • Margin Call (with Demi Moore, 2011)
